According to a story in ESPN The Magazine, Colorado Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy says his franchise would select Halifax Mooseheads forward Nathan MacKinnon with the first-overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, if the selections were made Monday. "It would be tough for us not to take MacKinnon," Roy told ESPN The Magazine. "MacKinnon is ready to play tomorrow." The new man behind the bench of the Avalanche did not take the option of trading the pick off the table and also indicated that there has been lots of league wide interest in swinging a deal and moving into the top spot. "We have received a lot of calls." Roy said to ESPN The Magazine. "Its important for us to see, what can we do to make our team better? We have to look at all options." Roy also told ESPN The Magazine the order in which the Avalanche see the top forwards in the draft. According to the head coach, after Mackinnon, the team like his Mooseheads teammate Jonathan Drouin second, followed by Finnish forward Alexander Barkov. According to a report in the Denver Post last week, Avalanche executive vice-president Joe Sakic said the team would pass on Portland Winterhawks defenceman Seth Jones with the first-overall pick. SAN FRANCISCO -- Michael Morse looked baffled after missing wildly on a wicked curve from Minnesota starter Ricky Nolasco in the fifth inning. It was one of the few pitches the Giants slugger guessed wrong on, and the last one from Nolasco he let get by. Morse hit a bases-loaded double on Nolascos next offering -- one of three doubles by San Franciscos first baseman -- helping the Giants to an 8-1 win over the Twins on Sunday that completed a three-game sweep.
