Finishing the last season with the third highest overall grade among qualifying wide receivers, Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons is no stranger to high praise at both a seasonal and single game level. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he earned the highest game grade of any wideout in 2017.
Squaring up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12, Jones caught 12 of 15 targets for 253 yards and two touchdowns en route to a perfect passer rating when targeted 158.3 and a single game grade of 99.9. Adding to his feat Andy Levitre Jersey, Jones finished the day having averaged 7.67 yards per route, which stands as the best single game mark by a wide receiver minimum 25 routes run in 2017. Lost in the Bills’ turnover debacle that week was Allen’s performance. He had a near perfect 157.2 wide receiver rating and beat seven different defenders throughout the contest.
No. 3 Keenan Allen vs. DAL Week 12 – 94.6 overall grade
Allen followed up his Week 11 performance with another great outing, and put one of the great highlights of 2017 on tape when he slalomed through five Cowboys defenders to score a touchdown on Thanksgiving.
In one of the best games of the year, Hopkins was a shining star. He had 224 receiving yards and a score, with the most impressive moment coming on a weaving path to the endzone on a screen.

Orlando Scandrick is gone from the Cowboys, but he s staying in the NFC East.
Sources told SportsDay s Brandon George on Monday that Scandrick has signed a two year deal with the rival Clay DeBord Jersey Washington Redskins worth up to 10 million. Scandrick was released Saturday, a move he asked the Cowboys to make.
Scandrick had requested his release a week ago, asking to be put on the open market before free agency began at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The Cowboys didn t release him immediately in hopes of possibly gaining some type of compensation for Scandrick in a trade.
The Cowboys plan to designate Scandrick a post June 1 cut, so that will free up 3 million in salary cap space this year, a source said, but he ll count 1.6 million against the cap in 2019. The Cowboys can t use the 3 million in cap space until June. Scandrick was signed for two more seasons through 2019. He was owed base salaries of 3 million and 4 million over the next two seasons, with salary cap hits of more than 5 million in both 2018 and 2019.
Scandrick, 31, has spent his first 10 seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys, establishing himself as a starter in 2013. Scandrick was the Cowboys best cornerback in recent seasons, especially strong in the nickel role. But the Cowboys went young at the position last year, using their second and third round picks to draft Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis, respectively. That, in addition to their decision this offseason to move starting safety Byron Jones back to cornerback, didn t leave much room for Scandrick.
The Cowboys used a fifth round pick to draft Scandrick out of Boise State in 2008. Ever since then, he played with a chip on his shoulder because he felt overlooked and undervalued. He finishes his Cowboys career with 406 tackles, eight interceptions, 63 pass breakups and 11 1/2 sacks.

The Steelers were getting weaker, not stronger.
However, this was certainly just the fan in me bleeding through. In the wake of the horrible loss on home turf, I read comment after comment about how the team was broken beyond the point of repair. Players and coaches alike just weren’t good enough.

NFL Free Agency arrived, and the Steelers didn’t make a peep.

However, those who know understand this isn’t how the Steelers do business, nor did they have the salary cap space to make any grand moves. They waited, and started to make moves.
First, they added inside linebacker Jon Bostic, who most recently played for the Indianapolis Colts. For their second act, the Steelers added Morgan Burnett, free agent safety from the Green Bay Packers. What these two players bring to the team is not just experience, but extremely high football intelligence with an emphasis on communication. These factors will help ease the transition of the defense from not only life without Ryan Shazier, but an attempt to move on from the Mike Mitchell/William Gay era.
When things were at their lowest after the Jaguars loss, and I can say I haven’t experienced much worse since taking over here at BTSC, the Steelers proved they are still all in for another championship.

Are these those huge splash free agent signings? Similar to what would have been the signing Tyrann Mathieu? Absolutely not, but they are extremely valuable pieces of the team’s 2018 puzzle. The experience, communication and versatility these players bring is invaluable to the team, especially heading into the 2018 NFL Draft.
While many thought the Steelers were anything but committed to the overall goal, the team has proven otherwise, going out and bringing in talent which can help fill some of the holes the team has on the roster.
The players are in place, but can the coaches get the in the position to succeed?
That is an entirely different discussion for another day.
On the same day Richard Sherman met with reporters for the first time as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, the star cornerback also offered his own insight into this offseason.
In an article for The Players Tribune, Sherman started by going through what turned out to be his final days with the Seattle Seahawks
First of all, contrary to some reports, the Seahawks didn t ask me to take a pay cut. There was no negotiation. When I met with them on March 7 to discuss my future Kam Chancellor Jersey, they informed me of their intent to release me. They didn t know when they were going to do it, but it would be soon, they said.
Two days later I was in Las Vegas at the NFLPA meetings, sitting up on a stage in front of like 200 people in a giant hotel conference room, when my phone started blowing up. News of Seattle s plans had gotten out.
Sherman noted the 49ers called him three minutes after his release became official
They wanted me to fly to San Jose to have dinner with Kyle Shanahan. So I got my affairs in order — I had literally been a free agent for only a few minutes — and wrapped up some union business. Then I went back to my hotel with my fiancée, Ashley, and we grabbed our things and jumped on a flight.
At dinner, Kyle made one hell of a pitch. He has an incredible football mind — he s just a great tactician — and we talked for hours about different schemes and about his vision for the team. He really impressed me.
After negotiating his deal with the 49ers, Sherman—who represented himself this offseason—said Seahawks general manager John Schneider told him to bring his offer back to Seattle so it could have a chance to match it.
When the Seahawks declined to match the offer, Sherman signed a three year deal which NFL Network s Ian Rapoport reported is worth up to 39 million with the 49ers.
Per NFL Network s Tom Pelissero, Sherman s deal includes a 5 million signing bonus and 2 million base salary with 1 million incentives based on playing time and a 3 million bonus if he makes the Pro Bowl in 2018.
Sherman added playing against the Seahawks twice a year was definitely a perk to signing with San Francisco, but he also signed with the 49ers because they showed genuine interest in him.
The 49ers are entering next season with high expectations, despite a 6 10 record in 2017. They won their final five games last season when quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took over the offense.
Coming off a ruptured Achilles that limited him to 10 games last season, Sherman is hoping to lead San Francisco s defense in 2018 as the franchise seeks its first playoff appearance since 2013.
